Park Kiosk Raid Reported in August Crime Stats

Ruddington crime figures for last month just revealed by Rushcliffe Police show a spike in thefts, burglaries and items stolen from motor vehicles in our village – though without any criminal damage recorded this time around.

As previously reported, the summer ‘crime wave’ prompted local officers to increase patrols in Ruddington. However, the August figures from our local officers do not include the subsequent assault on a 28 year-old man in Easthorpe Street on August 21st, which left the victim seriously ill in hospital with life threatening head injuries. A 34-year-old man was arrested in connection with this incident. A 27-year-old man has since been charged.

Police were called to Easthorpe Street after a fight was reported here in the evening of August 21st

The month did not start well for The Rushcliffe Park Kiosk, near the play area (pictured top), which was targeted by criminals in the early hours of Sunday August 1st. The owner took to Facebook to reveal: “We have had equipment stolen. We are now asking PLEASE anyone that has a house or a vehicle with CCTV or dash cam on Rushcliffe Country Park perimeters to please have a look and let us know of any quads or vehicles around at unusual times acting strange i.e. out of place”.

One of the items taken was a distinctive orange box with silver cylinders on the top. The machine was actually found hidden in some bushes but, whilst the police were being called, it seems the brazen thieves returned and took it! The appeal adds: “Any information given will be received in strictest confidence. There will be a cash reward given for the arrest of these three men!”

A good description of those thought to be responsible was also given – using CCTV footage captured as the suspects made their escape using the footbridge over the railway line:

  • 2 white men aged around 19 or 20. Slim and about 5’9″ tall
  • 1 mixed race man about 5’8″. Long hair on top but shaved sides. Wearing a black tracksuit – with a bit of weight around the middle
  • They also had a “quite old” blue metallic cross type motor bike, like the one pictured.

Despite this, the owner has just updated RUDDINGTON.info saying: “Nobody’s been caught. Police aren’t interested at all. Wouldn’t even take fingerprints.”
